Creating a Template
Create reusable interview templates in NTRVSTA by starting from a job description PDF or building the interview flow manually.
Templates define the questions, scoring context, and interview experience candidates complete. Use this guide when you are creating a new template or reviewing how an existing template is configured.
At a glance
Choose how you want to build the interview
Start from a PDF when you already have a job description and want NTRVSTA to draft the interview. Use manual entry when you want direct control over the topics, questions, and interview behavior.
The Templates page has two main tabs:
- Existing Templates — browse, search, and manage your organization's templates
- Create New — start a new template manually or from a PDF
Existing Templates
Use Existing Templates when you want to review, update, test, or reuse a template that already exists.
The template list supports sorting by Newest, Oldest, A-Z, and Z-A. Click a template to open its detail panel and review key settings such as:
- Status (Active or Inactive)
- Type (Technical or Learning)
- Audio-only mode status
- Whiteboard mode status
- Last updated timestamp
- Prompt preview
- Avatar, language, and voice settings
- First message (supports
{interviewerName}and{organizationName}tokens) - Closing message
- Introductory questions
- First message, closing message, and questions can be toggled on or off independently
Template Actions
- Test — launch a real-time AI-interview test session to preview the candidate experience
- Share — generate a shareable link for the template
- Duplicate — create a copy of the template
- Edit — modify template configuration, including interview type, media modes, and content
Choose a Creation Method
You can create a template in two ways:
- PDF Upload — best when you already have a job description and want to generate a technical template faster
- Manual Entry — best when you want full control over the interview structure or need a Learning template
Before choosing a method, decide which template type you need:
- Technical — best for coding, problem-solving, and role-specific technical evaluation
- Learning — best for internal training, practice, and development workflows
Interview language applies to both creation paths and controls the spoken language used by the AI interviewer and the generated template content.
NTRVSTA currently supports these interview languages:
- English (US)
- English (UK)
- Spanish
- French
- Mandarin Chinese
- Italian
- German
- Portuguese (Portugal)
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Croatian
PDF Upload
Use PDF upload when the source material already exists and you want a strong first draft.
- Drag or select a PDF (max 5 pages, minimum 50 characters of text)
- The text is extracted and used to pre-fill the template configuration
- Expand Advanced Options to review or modify the extracted job description, topics, questions, and custom instructions
- Click Preview to generate the AI interview prompt
- Enter a Title and review the generated prompt
- Click Create Template to save
PDF creation only supports the Technical interview type. For Learning templates, use manual creation.
Manual Entry
Use manual entry when you want to define the interview from scratch or create a Learning template.
Basic Setup
- Title — the template name
- Type — Technical or Learning
- Language — controls the spoken language used by the AI interviewer and the generated template content
Interview Behavior
- Enable Audio-Only Mode — when enabled, candidates hear an AI voice without a video avatar. Audio is always required; this toggle removes the visual component
- Whiteboard Mode — enable the collaborative whiteboard for system design and architecture questions
Interview Content
- Job Description — the role description the interview is based on
- Topics — key subject areas the interview should cover
- Questions — specific questions or question types to include
- Custom Instructions — additional guidance for the AI interviewer
When everything looks right, click Create Template to save.
After Creation
Once a template is saved, it appears in Existing Templates. The usual next steps are:
- Test the template to preview the candidate experience
- Share it when you want to distribute a reusable template link
- Move to Inviting Candidates when you are ready to start interviews
